Is that a fixed Scarlet Kit I’m spotting there? Brain, Handle, LCD, … anyhow.

Pictures Baby! Eric Ulbrich was so kind to share some photos taken at the Red Day at the newly named Red Studios Hollywood. Jump over to Reduser where the Pictures are and take a look. More Pictures and some stunning Information about the ISO capabilities of the M-X Sensor are awaiting you.

Anamorphics, finally

Red today announced the development of RED Pro Anamorphics (RPAs). Thew will be available in 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 100mm. All T2.4 Wow. I’m stunned. RED is rocking the Lens Market again. With this Lenses they probably are now a Company that offers virtually everything a filmmaker needs Lens-wise.

Now an announcement of the development of a screw on anamorphic adapter for the fixed Scarlet would be nice…

Anyhow, are Jims Words:

Tonight we are announcing the development of the RPAs (RED Pro Anamorphics). They will match color, optical quality and mechanical performance characteristics with their little brothers… the RPPs. The weight of the RPAs is expected to be within 1/2 pound of the RPPs.

Initial set will consist of:

35mm T2.4
50mm T2.4
85mm T2.4
100mm T2.4

A 25mm T2.4 is also being studied.

Delivery of the 4 lens set is expected by year’s end… although you know the schedule drill.

Prices will be slightly higher than RPPs.

Seems like Ted is on a Marketing Tour around on CES2010. With a Scarlet Prototype in Hand he walks to every booth who’ll let him talk. Good thing for us, as there are images popping up everywhere.

There is a Image-gallery about the Scarlet Prototype on Engaged for instance.

Or this Episode of Techpodcast where Ted is around and shows the scarlet to the Guys. Starts at around 4 and 1/2 Minutes, if you’re not interested in the other stuff.

Think there will be more, and if I get to know something I’ll post it here.

Whatever I do, no Clipping?

Jim already mentioned the new FLUT, a Brainchild of Graeme. But now there is an explanation of it, and I’m really impressed.

The “F” in FLUT stands for “floating point”.

If you haven’t clipped RAW, you haven’t clipped any ISO. Move your mid grey anywhere you want without fear of clipping.

FLUT includes another new color science. That’s right. Number 3. Better than number 2, which was better than the original.

FLUT includes a new color space- REDcolor (more accurate than before)

FLUT includes a new gamma- REDgamma (more info from RAW than before)

Since an r3d is RAW, you can re-grade any old footage with the new color science.

FLUT works with the Mysterium sensor. It works better with Mysterium-X sensor.

Examples will be shown at RED Day. You’ll be impressed, I’m quite sure.

Jim

I especialy like the “don’t clip your Raw and you’re ready to go” thing about it. Should be doable :-)

ISO 4000

What. The. FU… ?

iso4000ftw

This Image is a Snapshot recorded by Jim. Only lit by the Candle. ISO 4000. That’s what I cal Low-Light Capabilities!

This is insane. With this less noise at such a high Iso Two or Three Litepanels MicroPro is way than enough to light a stolen shot. Perfect for Run and Gun shooting Guerilla Style. I love it.

Post made easy?

You really are going to love this. It includes…

1. New Color Space.
More accurate color science and a new color space called REDcolor. Remember that Color Space is not baked in to RAW. This will be the option to CameraRGB or REC 709. I pick REDcolor every time now. But all are more accurate.

2. New Gamma.
REDgamma. It is a gamma that uses more information from RAW than REC 709 or REDspace. It matches your meter. It looks fantastic. The standard REDgamma is fairly flat and ready to grade. REDfilm is a gamma that emulates scanned film… for those traditionalists.

3. Old Legacy.
REDspace, as a color space or as a gamma, plus all the old “other gammas” will be included in REDCINE-X for legacy use. But you can grade your old footage with REDcolor and REDgamma… that is the power of RAW.

4. FLUT.
Graeme’s baby. This one will be shown and explained at RED Day. You are going to love this. Money back guarantee… oh, forgot. It’s free.

All big Stuff. I especially like the Idea of REDfilm. Playing back the stuff I recorded and have it instantly look like film, but due to the RED Footage being raw have a flat Image to start my real grade in post. Big plus. And even if you don’t know a bit till now about Red Post Workflow you’ve got to realise that…

In REDCINE-X, you set Color Space (REDcolor). Set Gamma (REDgamma). Set or check your White Balance. Adjust the FLUT Control. Grade. Easy.

…sounds like an easy route to grade your stuff. I’m eager to hera more. An Video showing it would be nice also.

REDCINE-X has several new features that you will appreciate… like Shadow Control. Plus… a few new big surprises.

I hope to see many of you at RED Day in February.

Jim

Shadow Control souds good, big surprises even more. Get all the Insights over at RedUser

Recorded with a Mysterium-X Sensor shot on an unknown lens at 800 ISO, T8, 1/48th, with daylight-balanced lighting, and untouched in post. Nice. But wouldn’t we all love to see that in moving images? Well, here you go: At Reduser you can grab a 2K ProRes LT mov of it..

There will be a RED Day on Feb. 13th for all Redusers at a location in Los Angeles (TBD).

This will be an all-day event where we will show EPIC and Scarlet prototypes, RED ONEs with Mysterium-X sensors, new accessories… and post solutions, including some new wrinkles. We will show 4K footage on a Sony 4K projector and will also show RED footage film prints. There will be several guests showing accessories for RED and post solutions.

More details coming in the next few weeks.

Jim

Nice. Would like to have something like that in Europe. Isn’t there a RED Shop in GB? None the less I really love to wait for what RED will show there.
